Saturday we finished the basement floor. The last 3 pieces were the toughest to cut. The wall juts out at a silly angle and we had to undercut the door frame as well. The carpet transition strip was also a pain to install since I had to drill holes in the concrete floor, push in inserts and then screw down a metal trough. Snappin gin the actual transition piece was easy enough. Now to figure out what to do about the carpet meeting the transition and looking good….anyone have any ideas? Later on Saturday I sacrificed half a piece of quarter round to the talbe saw trying to successfully make miter cuts. I finally gave up.
Today Traci’s parents came up and proved the old adage, ‘the right tool for the right job.’ They brought a nice DeWalt Miter Saw and that made all the difference. We go the quarter round cut and nailed in and it looks great. The floor is now done! (well, okay, we still need to putty in the holes from the nails, but that’s pretty minor).
Since we were on a roll today, and since Traci’s parents brought the truck, we hit up two Home Depot’s for their supply of our cabinets. We couldn’t find everything we needed though and ended up special ordering a bunch of stuff which should be in within 7-14 days. Now to start assembling it all.
Pictures are updated on the Basement Office Project site and now wrap to 2 pages!
