Kings Island

It’s been 3 years since I’ve been to Kings Island. We went down on Saturday which was part of the GE Aircraft Engines weekend. The last time I went, 3 years ago, it was the same weekend and just as crowded as any other Saturday. This time around though, crowded was the last word I’d use to describe it. Maybe this is due to all the layoffs??

Anyway, we arrived a 1pm ate lunch and by 3pm had ridden all but 4 of the main rides. We were pretty much just walking onto the rides. It was amazing. Next to the front car of the Beast at night I have some new favorite rides now. Delirium is awesome. I was actually more than a little afraid of this ride at first. I’m older now and rides are taking their toll on me more than they used to. But it turns out Delirium is an incredibly smooth and to me, relaxing, ride. What a trip. It’s like the Pirate Ship on steroids and spinning. A few times you are upside down and have the most interesting views of the park. Dan needs to hook me up with the pinhole camera for this one of these days. Check out the video and see some pictures of it.

My other favorite is the Slingshot ride. I’m having a hard time finding any reference to it on the Kings Island web site for some reason. Basically it’s similar to the Xtreme SkyFlyer, another favorite of mine, but different. In the Slingshot you lay in a giant ball that then “slingshots” you straight up into the air 260ft. It’s an incredible feeling. At the apex the ball rolls over and you face the ground for a bit, and then roll back onto your back as the ball free falls! It then bounces back up, and you flip around some more before gently bouncing to rest. It is the most exhilarating ride I’ve ever been on.
