The home theater is starting to move along. The projector, a Sharp XV-Z12000, is anxiously waiting being put to use. The mounting bracket and extension pole ordered from Audio Encounters should be in today or tomorrow (pricy items at almost $500).
I’ve settled on a DVD player, the Samsung DVD-HD931, and ordered it from Amazon. This player is one of the few with DVI output.
I’m still debating speakers. Right now I’m leaning towards Paradigm after hearing Geoff’s setup: a pair of Monitor 7’s for the LR and a CC-370 Center with Atom mini’s for the surrounds and the PS1000 subwoofer. I’d have to modify this configuration somewhat as I want in-walls for the side surrounds and on-walls for the rear surrounds but can do free standing LRC.
The subwoofers I originally wanted, the SVS 16-46 are out. I never realized how large they were. From the reviews a pair of 16-46’s were the closest you could get to “reference sound” period. At 16hz they can make bass below what you can hear, but you can feel them. But they stand 46″ tall and are HUGE.
I haven’t got any conclusive info on the moiré pattern problem with micro perforated screens yet so I’m waffling between a micro pref with center channel mounted behind or a non micro pref with center mounted below the screen. Either way, the screen will be a Stewart Firehawk, size yet to be determined, either 100″ or 110″ depending on some viewing angle tests that need to be done.
I definitely want the electronic matting option though.
Last thing to decide on will be receiver or amp and which ones, some pros and cons to both, mostly cost. My thought at the moment is to go with a receiver and then if I need to upgrade to individual amps and a signal processor I’ll do that.
Seating and color scheme has pretty much been decided on as well.
The plans are essentially finalized and we should be ordering the lumber this week with building to happen on following weekends once the lumber arrives. Build time should be 3-4 weekends and then just clean up and doing the decorative bits. Our goal is to “go live” by March.
