I found a great article the other day on Slate. It described how to watch the Iraqi Satellite TV station. Unfortunately, that same day we bombed the Iraqi TV infrastructure so the only thing that has been on has been a still image. However, the web site DSL TV has some other interesting feeds as well. CCTV, which seems to be out of China, and EuroTV are two of my favorites. BBC World is also interesting. These non U.S. controlled news feeds provide a refreshing angle on the war. They have some great video coverage of activates in Iraq without the constant talking head commentary found on CNN or Fox News. The only time CNN commentators shut up was during the initial launch of “Shock and Awe” and even then they couldn’t help burst in a few times with some inane commentary. I also find it interesting to see the news coverage of these stations isn’t localized as much as CNN is. Watching news in the U.S. leads you to quickly think that there really aren’t any other countries in the world, at least none with anything worth reporting on. To watch the feeds on DSL TV you’ll need to run your browser through a proxy located in the Netherlands. Check out Public Proxy Servers to find one.
