The Water Curse Strikes Again

Saturday.
A long home theater construction day.
Night comes.
I’m tired and sore.

“A nice warm bath in the Jacuzzi tub would be great”, I think to myself. An hour later I am feeling much better and I go downstairs to check email. I sit down and thinking “wow, my chair is cold. So cold it almost feels like it may be wet”. Sure enough it IS wet.

Frantically I look above me for the source of the water. At first I see nothing, no obvious source for the water. Then Traci spots it, the drywall along the edge of the can light above me is darker that the rest of the drywall. Dark and wet. Upon closer inspection there are telltale drop so of water hanging off the inside of the can as well.

I sigh with resignation that the curse has struck again, I knew it was wishful thinking to believe we could make it through the first full month of the new year with out the curse rising up and reminding us that we build the house on somebody’s sacred lands.

I go upstairs and strip off the caulk sealing the access panel to the tub. Pop it off and sure enough the sub flooring is wet, but only in a very limited area. This makes my search easier but nothing at first stands out as the glaringly obvious source of mayhem. Finally I spot it. A few tiny drops hanging off an inside seal of one of the jets. I have a bad leaky jet. At least it’s on the front, relatively easy to get at compared to a back jet. I have no idea how a back jet would be accessed without removing the tub.

Now the tub is out of commission until I find someone to repair the jet.
